Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNO): The Army’s Tiger Division on Tuesday flagged in a 170-kilometre high-altitude trekking expedition and a 1,064-kilometre cycling expedition as part of celebrations marking the 80th Infantry Day. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the expeditions, which culminated on October 27, commemorated the legacy of the Indian Infantry and paid tribute to the valour, sacrifice and dedication of generations of infantrymen. The high-altitude trekking expedition, conducted from September 25 to October 27, covered 170 kilometres from Shialkhar to Hansa in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti Valley, navigating rugged mountainous terrain and demanding high-altitude conditions. The cycling expedition, held from October 10 to 27, covered 1,064 kilometres from Jammu to Kullu in Himachal Pradesh and back, traversing challenging roads and diverse terrain across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. During the expeditions, the participating teams interacted with Veer Naris, veterans, local residents, NCC cadets and schoolchildren, spreading awareness about career opportunities in the Indian Army and promoting patriotism and national pride, the statement said. The teams also conducted plantation drives at various locations to promote environmental awareness, while interactions with local communities helped strengthen civil-military relations. The successful culmination of the expeditions reaffirmed the Infantry’s cherished values of “Naam, Namak and Nishan”, highlighting the spirit of adventure, camaraderie, perseverance and operational resilience among the participating soldiers, the statement added—(KNO)
